Outdoor construction in Maple Ridge

From new builds in Silver Valley and Albion to acreages in Thornhill and Whonnock, Maple Ridge yards need serious groundwork: walls, drainage, clearing and excavation.

Sport court enclosure: black chain link on poured concrete walls, with paver and flagstone paths. Maple Ridge.

Maple Ridge has some of the strictest retaining wall rules in the region. Any soil-retaining structure over 0.6 m counts as a retaining wall, walls over 1.0 m need a sealed engineered design, tiered walls closer than 3.0 m apart need engineering too, and walls are generally capped at 1.2 m under the zoning bylaw. Drain tile is required behind every wall. Wood walls are limited to 0.6 m and landscaping use only. We design to those numbers from the start, which usually means terracing rather than one tall wall.

Trees 20 cm DBH and larger are protected under the City's Tree Protection and Management Bylaw, and significant trees 60 cm and up need an arborist report with the permit. That matters for land clearing on the large, treed lots common in Maple Ridge, where we also do brush and blackberry clearing and forestry mulching on acreage.
