Retaining walls in Maple Ridge
Retaining walls across Maple Ridge, designed around the City's strict wall rules from the first site visit.

Working in Maple Ridge
Maple Ridge counts any soil-retaining structure over 0.6 m as a retaining wall. Walls over 1.0 m need a sealed engineered design, tiered walls closer than 3.0 m apart need engineering too, and walls are generally capped at 1.2 m under the zoning bylaw. Drain tile is required behind every wall, and wood walls are limited to 0.6 m.
In practice that means terraced walls, not one tall one, on most Maple Ridge slopes. We've built poured concrete walls stepping down long property lines and block walls on new Silver Valley and Albion lots.
What we build
- Segmental block walls (Allan Block style, Versa-Lok style and similar systems)
- Poured and formed concrete walls
- Natural boulder and rock walls
- Terraced garden walls and raised planters
- Wall replacement and failing-wall repair
- Walls combined with stairs, patios and fences

Retaining walls in Maple Ridge: common questions
When does a Maple Ridge wall need an engineer?
Walls over 1.0 m, tiered walls less than 3.0 m apart, and walls supporting a house foundation all need a sealed engineered design.
Can I build a wood retaining wall?
Only up to 0.6 m and only for landscaping, with setbacks from property lines. For anything taller we use block or concrete.
Why do retaining walls fail?
Most failures come from water. Saturated soil behind a wall is far heavier than dry soil, and without drain rock and a drain pipe that pressure builds every rainy season until the wall leans or cracks.
Which is better, block or concrete?
Segmental block suits most residential walls and is easy to repair. Poured concrete fits tight spaces, tall engineered walls and modern designs. We'll recommend one based on height, access and the look you want.
